Salam,

Medan Selera Dato Tahwil Azar or some called it Medan Selera Taman Kanak-Kanak (TKK), is a food court which is very fond to Ipoh kids or at least for a 90s kid. The food court is called Taman Kanak-Kanak (Children’s Playground) is due to the presence of a mini playground there and there is a big clock tower synonyms to this food court. Last time I remember, at a certain point of time, the ornaments and decorations on the tower will move and dancing when the time comes but now I think the clock broke already.

Anyway, if you are looking for a place to have your dinner in Ipoh but don’t want any fancy restaurant and want to try some hawker style dinner place in Ipoh, I would recommend this place. In this post, I will write about some of the interesting stalls here for you to try.

NASI AYAM TAUGEH @ YAN CAFE (STALL NO. 5)

I must say that Ipoh is very well known for it’s Nasi Ayam Taugeh (Beansprout Chicken Rice). In my previous post, I’ve wrote several chicken rice restaurant in Ipoh (Nasi Ayam Fuziah, Ipoh Hainan Chicken Rice). This time, I want to introduce to you my favorite chicken rice spot in Ipoh since I was a small kid. It is my favorite spot because of the taste and very affordable price.

Nasi Ayam Taugeh Yan

This chicken rice shop is located at stall No. 5 and named as Yan Cafe. I believe Yan is the owner’s name.

To me, if you are looking for a halal Nasi Ayam Taugeh, THIS IS THE PLACE!! I always requested for extra chicken as the photo below.

Pro tips: Request for extra kicap ayam (soy sauce) too.

This stall is opens at 5pm-12am. The only problem is, it seems like there is uncertainty to the business days of this stall. Sometimes I saw it was closed even on Sunday. So yeah.

Well, enjoy the photos below..

SUP KAMBING DARUS (STALL NO. 12)

This is another well known stall here. Gerai Darus has been operating for quite a long time even before I was born I think. Thus, the soup recipe is very original.

I would recommend the Lamb soup. The soup is a mamak style soup which is very thick and creamy. I can say that once you try it, you will want more.

AIR BATU CAMPUR (ABC) & LAI CHEE KANG (STALL NO. 6 or 9)

As Malaysia has a very hot weather and dry humidity, it would be nice to have something cool to cools you down when you walk around the Ipoh town. Here in TKK you will find a nice Air Batu Campur with Ice Cream on top and Lai Chee Kang.

Personally I don’t like any kind of drinks that have many mixed fruits or nuts in it. But for the sake of this post, I ordered the Lai Chee Kang drinks. It was good tho. It has quills egg in it and I think thats their specialty.
